Blueprint Reading Tips

Understanding Dimensions

Blueprints show measurements in inches. Note the scale indicator and check both overall dimensions and individual component sizes before starting.

Material Specifications

Each blueprint lists material type and thickness. Using incorrect material will affect weldability and final product quality.

Weld Symbols

Standard AWS weld symbols indicate weld type, size, and finish requirements. Reference the symbol key in each blueprint.

Inspection Points

Critical welds are marked for inspection. These require minimum penetration and proper appearance standards to pass.
